About the Robert Frost Middle School Gifted Music Conservatory Magnet

Research shows that music helps sharpen cognitive abilities and improve academic performance, which can be seen through history. Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein were among many influential figures who experienced the benefits of music. When Thomas Jefferson had trouble writing the Declaration of Independence, he used music to help him articulate his thoughts; Albert Einstein used music as the vehicle that helped him harmonize his skills and is revered as one of the most prominent scientific geniuses in history.

Drawing from scientific research and interest from our community, we want to provide an innovative conservatory that will implement a college preparatory curriculum along with premium quality music education which will challenge our students to grow in skill and stretch both academically and artistically. More than ever before, students are interested in learning about music and participating in inter-school events and concerts such as “Music in the Parks,” “Heritage Festival,” Spring and Winter Concerts.

The acclaimed Frost Music Department is one of the most accomplished music programs within LAUSD and the San Fernando Valley. At competitions, Frost’s music groups have consistently earned the Best Overall Group award as well as numerous first place awards and Outstanding Soloists awards. Our groups have performed at Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, California State University Northridge, and Fullerton City College. Our Advanced Choir and Advanced Strings groups have received invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York.
