Hall Pass & Backpack
HALL PASS
Every effort must be made to minimize interruption of instructional time. However, in the event that a student is required to leave the classroom during class, the student is required to:
- Follow the ten minute rule (no passes to be issued during the first or last ten minutes of class).
- Carry a valid HALL PASS.
- Students who are outside of their classroom during instructional time without a valid hall pass may be subject to disciplinary action as approved by the RFMS Progressive Discipline Policy.
BACKPACKS
Students are issued lockers to house their backpacks and materials during the day. Students should visit their locker at designated times prior to their classes to collect their materials. Students should never carry an entire day’s required materials. Backpacks should only be utilized to transport materials to and from school and will not be needed in classrooms. Backpacks should be small enough to fit in the locker during the school day. Rolling/wheeled backpacks do not fit in the school lockers.
Each student is also issued a physical education (PE) locker large enough to house the few materials required for class periods directly before or after a student’s PE period.
This policy eliminates tripping hazards and provides increased space for mobility, particularly for anyone with a disability. It also improves the learning environment because it reduces the amount of distractions that may be brought to class. Students should pay close attention to the list of required materials that every teacher makes available in their syllabus at the beginning of the year to ensure that they are carrying only what is needed.
